Long-term insomnia can seriously affect your life, leading to moodiness, difficulty concentrating, and depression. Ongoing lack of sleep puts you at greater risk for chronic conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure.
A doctor or sleep specialist can help identify the type of insomnia or other sleep disorder you may have, and they may refer you to a sleep study. A doctor also may suggest a type of talk therapy called cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia.
