| | Day 2: Check Your Medicine Cabinet | | | | Medications are an often-overlooked cause of sleep problems. Many drugs and supplements can cause insomnia , including drugs for allergies, heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, and depression. Meds for ADHD and Parkinson's disease also can keep you up, along with the pseudoephedrine found in many over-the-counter decongestants. Common supplements such as glucosamine and multivitamins also have been linked to poor sleep.
Check with your doctor about adjusting or changing your medication if you think it affects your sleep. If you suspect a supplement or over-the-counter drug is causing the problem, you could try taking it in the morning or simply stop using it.
Tomorrow, learn how getting morning light can help you sleep better at night. | | | | | | |
